The annual Neighbourhood Outdoor Rink Program has opened applications for residents to apply to build and maintain small skating rinks in their neighbourhoods.
The program is a free opportunity that provides approved applicants with the supplies to install and maintain small skating rinks in parks located near their homes for the winter.
Applicants must have a group of five committed volunteers to build and maintain the rinks and specify a location for installation. The City provides training on rink installation and maintenance and completes monthly hazard assessments on each build.
The deadline to submit an online application is December 15. Interested residents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as it is recommended that all rinks are fully constructed before the ground freezes and there is significant snow.
For more information and to fill out an online application check out the “Neighbourhood Rink Program” section at cityofgp.com/outdoorrinks.
