The entire country continues to feel the impact of COVID-19 and unemployment rates have reached a record high.

A recent Stats Canada labour force survey reveals that Alberta's unemployment rate spiked to 15.5 percent in May, and is amongst the highest in the country.

Unemployment in Alberta was 2.1 percent higher in May, than recorded in April of this year. The economic downturn largely attributes to the shutdown of non-essential businesses across the province.

The survey shows that 289, 600 jobs were added across the country in May, as public health restrictions began to ease and many businesses across the country stepped into phase one of their relaunch strategy.

However, Canada's unemployment rate still rose to the highest level in over 40 years, at 13.7 percent.
