Alberta is reporting 94 new cases of COVID-19 today, Aug. 5, out of 7,197 tests in the last 24 hours.  

There are now 1,146 active cases and 9,891 recoveries, 137 of which are new since yesterday’s update. Currently, 75 Albertans are in the hospital with 20 of these in intensive care.  

There have been two more deaths, one of which was in Mackenzie County.  

Mackenzie County has three new cases and four new recoveries. They have 55 active, 113 recoveries and two deaths. Two outbreaks are active in the County: the Heimstaed Seniors Lodge in La Crete and La Crete family gatherings. Mackenzie County remains on the province’s relaunch watch list. 

Locally, numbers remain unchanged in the City and County of Grande Prairie. The City has 10 active and 28 recovered, while the County has four active and 19 recoveries.  

One person each in the MD of Peace River and MD of Smoky River has recovered, leaving zero active. 

Dr. Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, will provide her next update tomorrow afternoon.
