Today Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported 5710 recoveries from COVID-19, leaving 926 active cases. Of these, 59 are in the hospital and six in the ICU.

Out of 4017 tests in the last 24 hours, 33 were positive.

There has been an additional case identified in the City of Grande Prairie. There are two active cases and three recovered.

There have been four new deaths. A male in 70s, a female and male in their 80s, and female in her 90s, all in care facilities in Calgary. Dr. Hinshaw says that the average age of those who have died from COVID-19 is 82. This shows the continued need to monitor the long-term care facilities and additional measures to be taken as necessary to protect the health of staff and residents.

Dr. Hinshaw says that we are seeing a downward trend in numbers and this is due largely to the sacrifices Albertans have made. She says they have not made decisions on restrictions lightly and that protecting the health and well-being of Albertans has been at the forefront of all of them.

At the Cargil outbreak, there are just five active cases and 943 recovered. The JBS outbreak has 10 active and 640 recovered.

The numbers of cases in Calgary and Brooks have been going down and if this continues, they will be able to proceed with stage 1 of relaunch soon.

Dr. Hinshaw urges Albertans to continue to exercise responsible action as we relaunch.

Dr. Hinshaw says that we could have a bit of a break in COVID-19 cases over the summer, as we have seen in the past with other respiratory illnesses. It's important to remember that even if there is a break, we could see a spike again in the fall as temperatures drop again. Our best bet is to continue to practice the public health measures.
