On Oct. 17 ,2023, Wabasca RCMP received a report of an assault at a residence on Bigstone Cree Nation. Upon arrival, RCMP attempted life saving measures, however the 75-year-old resident of Bigstone Cree Nation was pronounced deceased by EMS. RCMP arrested a female at the scene and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed and took carriage of the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, RCMP have charged Kree Taysheyah Roasting (20), a resident of Bigstone Cree Nation, with second degree murder.

Roasting was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody with her next court appearance set for Oct. 19, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wabasca.
