On Wednesday afternoon (April 8, 2020), Premier Jason Kenney presented data from Alberta's modelling projections for COVID-19.

As was revealed during yesterday's provincial address, between 800,000 and one million infections are expected in the provinces two scenarios, as well as 400-6600 deaths.

Today's conference included the modelling data presented on a series of graphs, comparing Alberta's projections to those of other countries and provinces.

Alberta's high rate of testing was highlighted, which Kenney says is set to rise.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw also appeared, reminding Albertans to keep certain factors in mind when viewing the data.

"To those who look at the numbers and think they are frighteningly high, I saw to you we can change the outcomes. Remember the modelling is giving is the total number of anticipated infections in the whole population, not just the confirmed cases. That makes the numbers higher than what we have seen in other countries who are reporting their confirmed cases."

Dr. Hinshaw also announced that testing will be expanded to include all residents of the Calgary zone who have a cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, or shortness of breath, as well as essential service workers across Alberta with the same symptoms. This includes anyone whose workplace has not been closed due to a public health order.

50 new cases were announced, bringing the total to 1423 cases

44 individuals have been hospitalized, with 16 in ICU.

519 have recovered.

Fatalities have risen to 29.
