With Spring finally arriving and the weather warming up, the Alberta Government is advising people to avoid visiting their summer homes. While you may be isolated in a remote location, services in the surrounding communities like health services, grocery stores, and other essential service providers are more limited with the COVID-19 outbreak.

The year-round residence of many smaller communities may be impacted by people visiting their summer homes from other towns and cities. To avoid putting pressure on the communities surrounding summer homes, Albertans are advised to stay home and help flatten the curve. The Government wants to ensure the safety of all Albertan’s and that is why they are asking people to refrain from visiting any vacation homes, cabins, or cottages.

Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said, "I also strongly advise against going to summer homes at this time. While we are all eager for a relaunch and wanting to see an easing of restrictions, now is not the time to have people moving through the province and possibly unknowingly spreading the virus. Please continue to hold to the measures we need to take together to protect each other."

Albertan’s are encouraged to protect themselves and others by:

  • Staying home, avoiding groups of people and practicing physical distancing.
  • Wash hands often, covering coughs and sneezes and avoid touching your face.
  • Watch for symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose or sore throat.
  • Isolating for 10 days if you are sick or experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.
