The Government of Alberta has announced increased supports for sustainable youth mental health hubs in the province.

“Today, I am pleased to announce 7.3 million dollars over three years 3 million of which will be allocated this year to expand mental health hubs across Alberta,” said Mike Ellis, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions.

The supports are believed to provide easy access for mental health, addiction services, primary health care, social services, housing and school-based supports for youth outside of larger urban centres. Partners include community-based organizations, Alberta Health Services, Primary Care Networks and other community partners, depending on the region.

“These youth hubs are absolute game changers for young people in need and making sure that they have access to safe, confidential, integrated mental health supports, and services,” said Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Children.

There are currently youth mental health hubs at different stages of development throughout the province including one in Maskwacis/ Samson Cree Nation. An announcement regarding the location of the expanded and new sites across Alberta will be made in the coming months.
