Alberta has added 263 new cases of COVID-19 today (Feb. 16), from about 5,200 tests completed, for a positivity rate of about 5%.

Right now, 4,993 cases are active in the province and the recovered total has reached 122,554.

There’s 365 people in the hospital with the virus, with 56 of these in intensive care. In the North Zone, there’s 47 people in the hospital with one of these admitted to intensive care.

Alberta has reported nine more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,791 since the start of the pandemic.

Alberta had an R value, or reproduction number, of 0.85 (0.82-0.89) from Feb. 8 to Feb. 14. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 0.78 (0.71-0.85), Calgary Zone was 0.82 (0.76-0.88) and the rest of Alberta was 0.94 (0.88-1.01).

Over the weekend, 15 variant cases were found on Friday, 18 on Saturday, 10 on Sunday and seven on Monday, for a total of 221. There have not been any variant cases found in the North Zone or South Zone. There have been 97 found in the Calgary Zone, 79 in the Edmonton Zone and 45 in the Central Zone.

There have now been 149,138 vaccine doses administered. Those who have received two doses and are fully immunized is more than 54,000.

In the City of Grande Prairie, the active case total is 219 with 1179 recoveries. The County of Grande Prairie has 41 active cases and 360 recoveries.

Four new outbreaks in the area were added to Alberta Health’s list today:

  • Rotary House, Grande Prairie: 14 cases (all active)
  • Heritage Lodge, Grande Prairie: 7 cases (all active)
  • Private group home, Grande Prairie: 6 cases (all active)
  • Walmart, Grande Prairie: 10 cases (2 active, 8 recovered)
  • Knowledge Tree Childcare Centre, Valleyview: 5 cases (all active)
