People born in 1981 or before (40+) living in Dawson Creek will be invited to book their vaccine appointments at additional community clinics starting this week.

The city is one of 13 high-transmission communities in B.C. where the change is taking place. The announcement came on Monday, April 19, after province announced that people born 1981 and before are now eligible to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The government says that “Protecting people in higher-transmission neighbourhoods with vaccines will help reduce transmission and protect people and communities from COVID-19.”

The other communities are in the Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health regions. In Dawson Creek, the province will be working with Northern Health authorities to increase appointments, using AstraZeneca primarily.

To get the vaccine, residents of the high-transmission communities register online, then will be invited to book their appointment the same day. To confirm they live in a high transmission community, people can enter their postal code at gov.bc.ca/neighbourhoodplan. People will need to bring their Personal Health Number, located on a CareCard, driver’s license or BC Services Card.

Those not in these communities, but born 1981, can book their AstraZeneca vaccine at an eligible pharmacy. Find a pharmacy online
