Alberta Health Services (AHS) is now providing local daily walk-in addiction and mental health support for children and youth, in addition to existing weekday services available through appointment.

Children, youth and their families can access walk-in addiction and mental health services in addition to booked appointments Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Child and Youth Addiction and Mental Health office, located on the fourth floor of Nordic Court, 10014 99 St.

The service will provide assessments, single sessions with a child and youth addiction and mental health therapist, as well as parental supports and referrals to other community resources.

“Alberta’s government is building a comprehensive recovery-oriented system of addiction and mental healthcare,” says Nicholas Milliken, Minister of Mental Health and Addiction. “Having more ways to access care will make a difference in improving the mental health of children and youth in our communities.”

Valerie Daoust, Manager of Child and Youth Addiction and Mental Health in Grande Prairie, explains walk-in services provide increased options for families or youth seeking help.

“By providing a walk-in option, we are increasing the ability for families or youth to come into the office and find the support they need very quickly,” Daoust says.
