A teen boy survived nearly two months at sea after a storm carried his small fishing raft from Indonesia to Guam.

Aldi Novel Adilang was fishing when a storm came up and ripped his raft from its moorings. He spent a total of 49 days drifting on the sea, eventually winding up near the USA territory of Guam.

The 19-year-old was rescued by a freighter registered in Panama. The crew brought him on board and provided him with blankets and food. "Aldi said he had been scared and often cried while adrift," Fajar Firdaus, a diplomat at the Indonesian consulate in Osaka, told the Jakarta Post on Sunday.

The boy was rescued earlier in September when a passing vessel spotted him, according to a post on the consulate's Facebook page. The ship's crew eventually got him to Osaka, and the consulate was able to arrange travel for the young man to reunite with his family.

Adilang told the Jakarta Post that more than 10 ships had passed by him, but he had failed to attract their attention.

He also had the opportunity to pray, he said, when his raft was circled by a shark, according to an NBC report.
