A 90-year-old pastor in California who survived cancer has now also recovered from COVID-19.

Paster Jose Lopez's family is giving thanks to God that their loved one has survived the coronavirus.

Lopez, a pastor at Lathrop Community Church in Lathrop, CA, tested positive for the virus in March, reports CBN News.

Lopez's family did not tell the pastor, affectionately known as "Paster Jose," about his diagnosis due to concern that Lopez's condition would worsen. The pastor has a history of cancer and diabetes.

Hector Lopez, the pastor's son, says he wasn't sure his father would survive COVID-19.

"All you've been hearing with people his age and health condition is that he probably won't make it," Hector says.

"I drove to my dad's house to say goodbye."

But after two days in the hospital, Lopez had made significant progress and his health had improved. Hector says his father has now fully recovered from the virus.

"He beat it, he beat cancer and he beat this," says Hector.

The pastor has become a symbol of hope for coronavirus survival, says Hector, who gives all credit for his father's survival to God.

"God healed him, brother," Hector says.

"My dad should not be alive."

Pastor Jose's daughter, Sylvia Fuentes Lopez told CBN News, "This is a great testimony of the miracle God has done in my dad's life."
