Peace Country residents woke up this morning to extreme cold temperatures and a lot of snow.

After an unusually warm and dry winter, the precipitation was needed. In fact, the amount of snow that fell beat a record amount that was set in 1952.

On February 25, 1952 the Grande Prairie area saw 7.4 cm of snow fall, and yesterday's snowfall surpassed the greatest amount record for that date with 7.6 cm.

With the return of the snow and forecasted precipitation for later this week, the Fire Advisory that was put in place for the County of Grande Prairie on February 23, 2024 has been lifted.
