The City of Grande Prairie awarded $59,600 through the Arts Development Committee to local art and cultural groups in the latest round of Arts Development Funding.

$3000 was granted to The Grande Prairie Academy for the Edmonton Ballet Project through the Major Project Fund. This fund supports programs and projects which foster and promote the enjoyment of visual, literary and performing arts by local artists and groups to enrichen arts and culture opportunities in Grande Prairie. 

$56,600 was awarded across 11 different community groups through the Festival Fund. The Festival Fund supports local non-profit groups and societies in hosting public events that contribute to the cultural fabric of the community. Recipients for this round of funding include:

o   Grande Prairie Society of Irish Dance (Ceili Festival)

o   Grande Prairie and District Music Festival Association (Grande Prairie and District Music Festival)

o   Grande Prairie Hindu Association (Hindu Temple Diwali Celebration)

o   Grande Prairie Pride Society (Pride Festival)

o   ACFA Grande Prairie (21st Maple Sugar Festival)

o   Grande Prairie Singers (Festival of Carols)

o   Grande Prairie Highland Games Association (Grande Prairie Highland Games)

o   East Indian Cultural Association (Baisakhi Festival)

o   Native Counselling Services of Alberta (Indigenous People Celebration 2019)

o   Centre for Creative Arts (Alberta Culture Days)

o   Troyanda Society of Ukrainian Culture & Heritage (Vitaemo Festival)

The deadline for groups to submit application for the next round of Festival Funding is October 1. Applications for Individual Project Funding and Arts Development Scholarships are open until March 1. All application information is available at cityofgp.com/funding.

The Arts Development Committee supports opportunities for art and culture in Grande Prairie by administering the Arts Development Fund, the Festival Fund and the Public Arts Reserve Fund year-round.
