Alberta has added 456 new cases of COVID-19 today (Jan. 19), from about 8,200 tests completed, for a positivity rate of about 5.6%. 

Right now, 11,096 cases are active in the province. With 1,267 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 105,208. 

There’s 740 people in the hospital with the virus, with 119 of these in intensive care. This is one more hospitalization than reported yesterday, and one fewer ICU admission. In the North Zone, there’s 75 people in the hospital with eight of these admitted to intensive care. 

Alberta has reported 17 more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,463 since the start of the pandemic.  

There have now been 92,315 vaccines administered. 

Alberta had an R value, or reproduction number, of 0.84 (0.81-0.86) from Jan. 11 to Jan. 17. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 0.81 (0.77-0.85), Calgary Zone was 0.79 (0.79-0.85) and the rest of Alberta was 0.88 (0.84-0.92). This number shows whether cases are currently increasing, decreasing or staying the same (ie. the average number of people that someone infected with COVID-19 will infect). 

In the City of Grande Prairie, 13 new cases were added, and 23 people recovered. The active total is 180 with 839 recoveries. 

In the County of Grande Prairie, two cases were added, and seven people recovered. There’s now 46 active cases and 257 recoveries.
