As part of Canada Day 2020, we are sharing twenty of the top artists and bands with Canadian roots.

Canadians are a strong part of the Christian music scene. Here are twenty artists who have risen to the top of the pack, representing Canada on a world stage.

 

Jon Bauer - St. Albert, Alberta

This artist has been in the music scene since 2004, releasing music such as "Fix My Eyes" and "Say Something." In 2012, he was nominated for a Juno in the Best Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album category for Forevermore.

 

Dan Bremnes - Salmon Arm, British Columbia

Growing up as the son of a pastor in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Bremnes has been surrounded by worship music. He is known for his album "Wherever I Go."

 

Hawk Nelson - Peterborough, Ontario 

This Peterborough, Ontario band has been making music since 2000 while under the name SWISH. The Grammy-nominated band has had their music featured in commercials as well as the film Yours, Mine and Ours.

 

Steve Bell - Winnipeg, Manitoba

Manitoba's Steve Bell is not only a Juno-award winning musician, but he is also an accomplished author and speaker. He is the creator of Signpost Music and a recipient of the 2012 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

 

Matt Brouwer - Truro, Nova Scotia

"Sometimes” performer Matt Brouwer grew up in a devoutly-Christian home in Truro, Nova Scotia. He has more than a dozen GMA Canada Covenant Award nominations and won a Juno for Where's Our Revolution.

 

Jon Buller - Winnipeg, Manitoba

This Juno-nominated musician is not only known for his music but is also a worship leader and Levite Summit leader. 

 

Amanda Lindsay Cook - Niverville, Manitoba

Amanda Lindsay Cook (formerly Amanda Falk) is both a solo artist and performs with Bethel Music. She has a long list of award wins and nominations to her name, ranging from 2005 to 2016.

 

Brian Doerksen - Abbotsford. British Columbia

This worship leader doubles as a singer-songwriter. He has been making music professionally since 2002 and has won many awards, including a Juno.

 

Elias Dummer - Hamilton, Ontario

Elias Dummer wears many hats as both a musician and a worship leader. He is the former frontman for The City Harmonic.

 

The Color - Southern Manitoba

While they may use the American spelling, this band is all-Canadian. Band members are from several places in southern Manitoba, coming together as a band. 

 

Jordan St. Cyr - Niverville, Manitoba 

The Billboard-artist has humble roots in Niverville. Living with his family in the rural town, St. Cyr creates music in both Manitoba and in the United States.

 

Fresh I.E. - Winnipeg, Manitoba

The proud Winnipegger is the first-ever Canadian Christian artist to have been nominated for a Grammy. The artist is proud of his Manitroban roots, creating a Grey-Cup inspired Winnipeg Blue Bombers song.

 

Dan Macaulay - Brantford, Ontario

This Covenant Award-winner has been leading worship for over twenty years. Now living in Buffalo, Macaulay ministers across North America. 

 

Matt Maher -  Newfoundland

The nine time-Grammy award nominee has preformed for Pope Francis twice. Maher is also a songwriter, writing for Chris Tomlin, Third Day, Jeremy Camp, and others. 

 

Manafest -  Pickering, Ontario

Christopher Greenwood is a Canadian rapper from Pickering, Ontario. He has been nominated for Juno Awards and has won several others. 

 

Manic Drive - Toronto, Ontario

The family band was awarded a Juno in 2015 and has graced the Billboard Charts many times.

 

Love & the Outcome - Winnipeg, Manitoba

This husband and wife duo says their sound is inspired by bands such as U2, The Police, and Coldplay, but their music is all about faith.

 

Starfield - Winnipeg, Manitoba

This Winnipeg-based band has reached further from their church in the prairies to across the pond, making waves in the United Kindom. 

 

Tim Neufeld - Winnipeg, Manitoba

The Starfield-singer is also the frontman for his group, Tim Neufeld and the Glory Boys. He now lives in  Abbotsford, British Columbia.

 

Greg Sczebel -  Salmon Arm, British Columbia

Sczebel began his music career in 2004 and continues to see success. The two-time Juno award winner has also performed for Prince William and Kate Middleton.
