The 10th annual Winterize Your Ride took place on Saturday, November 12 at Prairie Coast Equipment in Grande Prairie.
Event Organizer Dan Rigler said in a Facebook post that this year's event was like no year they have had before. "This year was filled with milestones for us, it marked our 10th year of this event, it marked our 1000th vehicle winterized, and are now over 1100, it was also a new record of vehicles winterized in a day beating our previous record by almost 20, now at 185. More snacks and refreshments were served than any previous year and more money spent on parts then ever before. All this was done with a volunteer count down by 30% and yet a smile was seen on everyone."
Winterize Your Ride is a Free vehicle winterization for single parents, widows, and families in need, and is sponsored by many businesses in and around Grande Prairie.
Qualified technicians along with volunteers will check over things like lights, block heaters, starting/charging system, tire pressure, wipers, engine codes, air filter, fluids and more, to ensure your vehicle is safe and reliable for those cold winter days.
As exciting as the numbers were, Rigler says, "The day was not about numbers or milestones, it was about coming together to serve in our community. Each vehicle was not simply a car, it represented a person, a family, a friend. It was an opportunity to show that they are seen, loved, and that there are people who care."
