The Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) teams at the County of Grande Prairie, City of Grande Prairie, and towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley invite local seniors for their Bi-annual Seniors’ Tea event, presented by CatWauk Compression Ltd. The event will take place on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the TARA Centre at Evergreen Park.

Seniors from across the County, City, and neighbouring communities are encouraged to participate in this free event, which honours Seniors’ Week and recognizes their invaluable contributions to our communities.

“Seniors enrich our communities with their wisdom and experience,” says County of Grande Prairie Reeve Bob Marshall. “As we come together to celebrate Seniors’ Week, let us express our gratitude for their contributions and dedication to our community as a whole.”

The event will feature light refreshments, snacks, musical entertainment, and door prize draws, promising a delightful and engaging afternoon for all attendees.

“We are thrilled to join our neighbouring communities in celebrating our seniors,” says City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “Part of Council’s strategic priority of building an inclusive, caring community is focusing on developing and pursuing opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all ages, youth to seniors. This tea event is not just a social gathering, it’s a reminder of the vital role seniors play in our community’s legacy, and of our duty to support seniors. We look forward to sharing this special afternoon with them at the TARA Centre.”

The community spirit is echoed by Mayor Gary Rycroft of Beaverlodge. “Events like this bring our seniors together, creating a sense of belonging and camaraderie,” he says. “It’s our way of saying thank you to those who have paved the way for us.”

Sexsmith Mayor Kate Potter appreciates the connections built at these events. “The Seniors' Tea allows us to strengthen our ties to those who have made our communities what they are today,” she explains. “It's a time to honour their past and inspire their future.”

Mayor Kelly Peterson of Wembley highlights the significance of seniors in the town's history. “Seniors are the pillars of our community,” he says. “Celebrating them during the Bi-annual Seniors' Tea is a privilege. We invite all seniors to join us for this memorable event.”
